PADI Discover Scuba Diving
The Padi Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program is an introductory experience that allows individuals to try scuba diving for the first time, without committing to a full certification course.
Description
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program (often called DSD) is a fun, low-commitment way to try scuba diving without getting certified—perfect if you’re curious about diving but not ready to take a full course yet.
What Is Discover Scuba Diving?
It’s a 1-day experience where you get to try scuba diving in confined water (like a pool or calm, shallow ocean) under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor. You’ll learn some basic skills and safety rules, then go for a real dive—usually up to 12 meters/40 feet.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to use basic scuba gear
- Breathing underwater
- Key safety tips and hand signals
- A few simple skills like clearing your mask and regulator
What to Expect:
- Briefing: Learn the basics of scuba equipment, underwater communication, and safety.
- Confined Water Session: Practice a few skills with your instructor.
- Optional Open Water Dive: If you’re comfortable, you can do a shallow dive with your instructor—no certification needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum age:Â 10 years old
- No prior experience needed
- You must be in good health (a short medical questionnaire will be given)
Important Notes:
- This is not a certification, but it can count toward your Open Water Diver course if you continue within a year.
- Great for vacation dives, gift experiences, or testing the waters before committing to full training.
Why It’s Worth It:
Discover Scuba is an unforgettable introduction to the underwater world—low stress, high fun, and a great way to see if scuba diving is for you.
