PADI Deep Diver Course
The PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course is designed for divers who want to explore depths greater than typical recreational limits of 18 meters (60 feet) and provides divers with the knowledge and skills to safely dive to a maximum depth of 40 meters (130 feet).
Description
The PADI Deep Diver course is a specialty certification that trains you to dive deeper than the 18m/60ft limit of Open Water certification—up to 40 meters / 130 feet, which is the recreational dive limit.
Why Take the Deep Diver Course?
- Explore wrecks, walls, caves, and deep reefs beyond standard depth limits.
- Learn how depth affects gas consumption, narcosis, and equipment performance.
- Required or highly recommended for some technical diving, advanced wreck diving, and certain dive destinations with deep sites.
What You’ll Learn:
- Planning deep dives and managing bottom time
- Gas narcosis—how to recognize and respond
- Emergency decompression procedures
- Proper use of dive computers, redundant systems, and safety gear
- Effects of pressure on your body and gear
Course Structure:
- 4 dives, typically over 2 days
- Often paired with Enriched Air (Nitrox)
Prerequisites:
- PADI Adventure Diver (or Advanced Open Water Diver)
- Minimum age:Â 15 years old
Gear You’ll Use:
- Dive computer
- Redundant air source
- Possibly a dive light and/or surface marker buoy (SMB)
- Optional: Nitrox tank for extended bottom time (if certified)
